We were beyond delighted to have Mr. Johnson come back on his latest book tour as he talked about Walt Longmire's new case in Return to Sender. But before we dive into what happened at our event, here is little more information on the author, himself, for those of you who have just been introduced to his books.

"Craig Johnson is the recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award for fiction and the Mountain & Plains Independent Booksellers Association's Reading the West Book Award for fiction. His novella Spirit of Steamboat was the first One Book Wyoming selection. He lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population twenty-six." (From the Publisher)

The doors opened around noon and our many readers poured into the room to either pick-up their pre-ordered books or to buy a copy from our mobile bookshop that was put together by our wonderful volunteers. For more on what Return to Sender is all about, here is the back blurb of the book:

Walt Longmire is back after the escapades of First Frost and encounters one of his most baffling cases in Wyoming’s brutal and unforgiving Red Desert.

When Blair McGowan, the mail person with the longest postal route in the country of over three hundred mile a day, goes missing the question becomes—where do you look for her? The Postal Inspector for the State of Wyoming elicits Sheriff Longmire to mount an investigation into her disappearance and Walt does everything but mail it in; posing as a letter-carrier himself, the good sheriff follows her trail and finds himself enveloped in the intrigue of an otherworldly cult.

Packed to the brim with twists and turns, the 21st novel in the New York Times bestselling Longmire series pushes Walt to his absolute limits, forcing him to wrestle with the impossible question: What good are your morals, if you’re marked for the dead letter office?

Our readers began to form their normal signing line once their copies were in hand, while others migrated toward the plethora of chairs arranged in organized rows. While our program did start a little behind schedule, due to the number of people wishing to have his signature, Mr. Johnson's stories did not disappoint! From the origin tale behind the true inspiration for Walt's dog, Dog, to the unique research trip he took on his motorcycle for this book, and a teaser of what his upcoming book will be about, our audience was smiling ear to ear.

Then, it was time for a short reading for our readers (a favorite amongst our attendees), before he announced the "Question and Answer" segment of his talk; which always brings up an unexpected plot twist or two along the way!

Faster than any of us knew it, however, the clock was ticking later in the day and it was back to signing more books as we made sure everyone had the chance to chat and get their copies personalized.

And like how all good things have to come to an end, we eventually said "farewell" to Mr. Johnson as he was off to the airport for the next stop on his tour.

(If you were not able to attend the event, we do have a limited number of signed stock on hand at our shop. Please call us at 717 - 795 - 7470 to see what we have available.)

Once again, we would like to thank all of our readers, staff, volunteers, and Mr. Johnson himself, for making this event possible. Without even one of these components, we would not have been able to put this together. See you all next time!

A special thanks also goes out to Barb Fellencer for taking the photos of this event, and for both Sherry Ickes's and Mark Allston's Images.
